Ponmudi (August 6, 2023)

On Sunday, Aug. 6, Shaji drove us to Ponmudi, the top of a mountain.  We made some stops along the way and then felt like we didn't have much time at the top because we had dinner plans that night.  But we tried to make the most of it. This is a famous place for the locals and they will come up for picnics and especially come toward the end of the days.  I suspect for sunset but clouds seem to surround the place.
It was beautiful to see mountains all around us.  As we drove in, the signs count down a total of 24 switchbacks, we noticed more and more clouds.  We were literally in the clouds.

Shaji was very careful as he was driving because he didn't want us to get carsick.  We saw some others pulled over on the side of the road.  It happens.

Tea plantations.

Tea grows in the mountains and higher elevations.  India is known for its tea and offers many different flavors of tea. It was a rough terrain and the work would be difficult. All along the side of the road there were women with tables set up that were loaded with tea bags. They would literally walk out into the street with a tea bag in hand trying to stop you to buy from them.  Dozens and dozens in competition with the same product.
